Environmental law issues

A central part of our environmental law work consists of representing clients in matters relating to environmental liability in conjunction with the acquisition of real estate and companies. In these matters, we regularly co-operate with special environmental consultants who carry out environmental technical studies of the property. The purpose of our work is, in part, to investigate the environmental risks that may exist in conjunction with an acquisition and, in part, to represent our clients in preventing, handling, and allocating these risks between the purchaser and seller. We also assess whether a business has obtained sufficient environmental licenses and, together with environmental consultants, whether the licenses terms and conditions for the businesses are being complied with. We also represent our clients in conjunction with contacts with governmental authorities and other general advice regarding miscellaneous environmental aspects.

We have many clients who are active in the energy and power sector, a sector in which issues regarding environmentally hazardous operations and environmental licenses must regularly be handled. We represent our clients in environmental law issues in conjunction with the acquisitions, capital acquisitions, and the operation of companies and projects within this sector, for example, regarding wind power parks, mines, and incineration facilities. Where necessary, we also in these matters co-operate with environmental consultants.

We also handle legal issues relating to, for example, waste disposal, manufacturer liability, chemicals, and trade in emissions rights. Our lawyers have thorough experience with EU legislation and case law which often forms the basis of Swedish environmental legislation.
