A law student who has the possibility of combining his or her degree work with an internship and thus be credited university points for the internship can carry out his or her legal paper internship with us.
We normally offer one internship per term at the firm to a student who intends to write his or her legal paper in a subject with a commercial law connection. One of the firm's lawyers is assigned as the legal paper internship student’s advisor but the student shall be responsible for establishing contact with a tutor in accordance with the rules of the university or college.
The idea underlying the internship is to provide an opportunity for the intern, over an extended period of time, to be in the commercial law environment and obtain practical experience. Through practical activities, the student is provided an opportunity to gain knowledge and insight into commercial law practice and its fundamental practical elements such as legal research, the drafting of minutes and other documents, negotiations, preparation for, and the implementation of, litigation proceedings, contacts with governmental authorities and clients, etc. The intern is offered the opportunity to closely follow and, to an appropriate extent and under qualified supervision, also assist the firm's lawyers in their daily work. The intern also has the opportunity during the internship to participate in the firm's extensive internal training activities. In addition, the legal paper intern is given the opportunity to establish contacts which may be valuable in the intern's future career.
Within the framework of the firm's practice, the intern has the opportunity to gain knowledge and materials for his or her paper. The precise work duties, the specific issues which the intern will encounter, and the experience which will be gained during the internship vary depending on the practice and cannot be stated in detail in advance. This implies that even if the internship should form the basis of the student's degree, the internship may have more or less of a direct connection to the subject of the legal paper which can be more or less clearly defined before the commencement of the internship.
During time at Gernandt & Danielsson, the intern receives a work station at our offices with access to the technical and other aids offered by the firm. Naturally, the intern's work station is equipped with modern computer equipment with access to databases and other aids which the intern requires for legal research, etc. The intern also has access to the firm's library with its extensive collection of publications and Swedish and international legal literature and journals. Following the internship there is usually an opportunity to use the firm’s offices for the degree work.
Applications for the fall term of 2010 must be received by Gernandt & Danielsson not later than 28 May 2010. In addition to a personal letter and a CV, the application should contain grades from your legal studies and secondary education as well as certificates evidencing any other studies or work experience you wish to draw to our attention. In the letter, you should state the desired time period for the internship and the area of study for your paper or the practice group or groups within which you wish to practise.
